 Applied Science & General Engineering

Applied science is the application of scientific knowledge transferred into a physical environment.Fields of engineering is closely related to applied sciences. Applied science is important for technology development. Its use in industrial settings is usually referred to as research and development (R&D).

Department of Applied Sciences and Humanities at SVIT commenced its operations in the year 2006.The primary objective of the Department is to develop the ability and desire among students to apply the techniques of critical analysis to the solution of problems of scientific and social interests. This will enable them to acquire new knowledge through strong mentoring and outstanding intellectual resources.

The Department of Applied Sciences and Humanities teaches Engineering Physics, Engineering Chemistry, Engineering Mathematics, Professional Communication and Human Values and Ethics to Engineering students. Focus is laid on imparting practical as well as theoretical knowledge in different areas of Applied Sciences

Engineering Physics helps develop the ability to reason clearly and approach problems practically. Physics plays an important role in building the fundamentals of all the engineering fields. The fundamental laws of Physics have led to the development of VLSI in microelectronics, optical communications, non-conventional sources of energy, material science etc.

Engineering Chemistry has a very special role to play in the curriculum of undergraduates across all branches of Engineering and Technology. This is because of the fact that engineers are not only expected to carry out chemical analysis by themselves but also it is absolutely essential for them to have an appreciation regarding the principles, applications, merits and limitation of modern techniques of instrumental chemical analysis. Thus Applied Chemistry is an integral part of B.E. program.

Mathematics is a base department imparting teaching in Applied Mathematics. For all engineers and professionals, a very strong foundation of mathematics is required. Mathematics enhances the ability to think clearly, pay attention to detail, manipulate precise and intricate ideas, follow complex reasoning, construct logical arguments and expose illogical ones.

Humanities aims at holistic development of Engineering and Management students. It prepares the students by imparting fundamental facets of Professional Communication, Remedial English, Human Values and Professional Ethics, Industrial Sociology and Industrial Psychology.
